Now I might have been keeping a secret from everyone. OSU will be taking part in the Dalian Sports Festival Today! That's right, we're ACTUALLY WALKING in the OPENING PARADE! After some pretty make-shift, half-hazard practicing, we were stunned when we appeared at the stadium on Saturday and saw all the stands filled! Apparently, all the different schools had been preparing for this much longer than we have, to the point where everyone was wearing specific colors so that the stands would make images! Crazy right? The other walkers in front of us were also all matching and ready to go, while we felt kind of dumb with just our white t-shirts and American flags. Still, when it was our turn to march, it was the most amazing feeling! We cheered and the crowd cheered back.
After our marching was over, we took the stands ourselves to support the OSU student who would ACTUALLY be participating in the REAL events! Our girls were all great! One of the girls even got 2nd place overall in her event! We really showed that OSU can compete!!! It was awesome being able to see the sports, especially the untraditional games like crazy caterpillar. (If you're wondering what that is, it's literally a giant stuffed caterpillar that you straddle with a team of four and you have to waddle your way to the finish line as fast as possible!)
The longer I'm here in Dalian, the luckier I feel. As the days pass, I'm getting sadder and sadder about having to leave all these awesome friends. :(
