Today has gone by so fast! It began with a lecture by Dr. Xiance Sun on Environment and Health. After lunch, we had a special lecture about applying to DMU (in case we wanted to come back for masters/graduate degrees). But the crazy thing was the surprise!
Now when they said there was going to be a surprised at our second lecture, I have no idea what I was expecting. But when the guest lecturer walked in and it was a white guy from OHIO STATE, our mouths dropped. After all, we have been in China for nearly a week and the diversity at DMU is nothing like the diversity back home. So seeing someone we could intimately relate too was nice. We asked him a lot of questions about living in China, communicating, and even the politics. It was a really nice change of pace.
After our lectures, we went back to the hotel and grabbed all our stuff for Beijing! I definitely tried to pack light, since it was only a weekend. We then all got on a bus that drove us and some other students to the train station. The station was PACKED, and considering we had ordered our tickets online, we were kind of worried. It ended up not being an issue and the long lines went by quickly. We grabbed some KFC and starbucks then played heads up before it was time to board the trains.
Sleeper cars are definitely NOT the best way to travel. No one really felt comfortable sleeping, so instead we packed into one cart and played games. Eventually though, we were exhausted and slowly made our way back to the cart. I definitely slept with one eye open. (Once the conductor lady came to my room and I literally bolted straight up! I think I scared her as much as she scared me.)
But really, there was no need to fear. There was no problems and now: We're in Beijing!!!
